It’s possible to recover after an abortion. Regret and guilt don’t have to rule over your life anymore, and you can gain emotional clarity again.

Though it seems impossible right now, you can have joy and peace in your life. Here are some steps to begin your recovery journey and find the support you need.

Emotional Effects of Abortion

There are, most of the time, serious emotional effects of abortion. You are not alone in your struggle.

The National Library of Medicine shares a study. The study was among 278 women who had an abortion and were 15-49 years old. The results revealed that at least one-third of the respondents had experienced psychological side effects.

“Depression, worrying about not being able to conceive again and abnormal eating behaviors were reported as dominant psychological consequences of abortion among the respondents. Decreased self-esteem, nightmare, guilt, and regret with 43.7%, 39.5%, 37.5%, and 33.3% prevalence rates have been placed in the lower status, respectively.”

Your Emotions Are Valid

Traumatic events such as abortion can bring emotions like guilt, shame, regret, anxiety, sadness, and anger. It’s important to address them with someone you trust.

Your emotions after abortion are valid due to such a serious medical procedure and decision. It takes courage to seek help, but you owe it to yourself to find the professional care and resources you need to recover.
